In the film classic Amadeus, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s turbulent life weaved together with his music. Ernst van Tiel conducts the Oslo Philharmonic, and Oslo Philharmonic Choir, who performs the music live on stage with the movie on the screen.

Musicians from the Oslo Philharmonic perform two works written fifty years apart: Grażyna Bacewicz’s Quartet for Four Violins and George Enescu’s Octet in C major.

Tonight’s soloist Eldbjørg Hemsing has given Hjalmar Borgstrøm’s Violin Concerto in G Major from 1914 a new lease of life in recent years. Dmitry Matvienko also conducts Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Symfoni No. 1 subtitled Winter Daydreams.

The American pianist legend Emanuel Ax is the soloist in Anders Hillborg’s “The MAC Concerto” from 2023, which was written for him. Klaus Mäkelä also conducts Jean Sibelius’ Lemminkäinen, where the famous Swan of Tuonela is one of four tone poems.

Gustav Mahler wanted to create a world in his symphonies. Symphony No. 3 is his largest symphony and a powerful vision of unity with nature and the divine. Jukka-Pekka Saraste conducts, and the mezzo-soprano Marianne Beate Kielland is the soloist.
