Catherine Bullock
Principal ViolaWelcome to the 26/27 season here at the Oslo Philharmonic!
I'm looking forward to meeting both familiar and new audience members. What awaits us is a hugely exciting season with fantastic music, soloists and conductors, and not least wonderful colleagues in the orchestra. This is my 26th season with the Oslo Philharmonic, and I'm just as excited as I was in my first. I can recommend every single concert, but I was told to pick only four, so here are my choices. I sincerely hope as many as possible will join us on our musical journey! Welcome.
Stravinsky's Violin Concerto is one of my favourite works, and I'm looking forward to hearing Kopatchinskaja's interpretation. She is incredibly inspiring. Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet is another highlight of this concert. The music is so powerful that even my five-year-old daughter was swept away by it; she danced on her own while watching the ballet on TV. I can't wait!

My next recommendation is the Ultima concert. It's always exciting to play brand-new works for the first time. Kristine Tjøgersen's piece in particular stands out — she is remarkably creative in her instrumentation and instrumental/playing techniques. Come and listen!
- Øyvind Torvund Two Pieces for Orchestra and Electronics (commission)
- Igor Stravinskij Le chant du rossignol

I hardly need to elaborate on the genius of Brahms. His music is so beautiful that words fail me. With Herbert Blomstedt on the podium, this will be a concert I'll never forget, and I feel fortunate to be part of it.
- Johannes Brahms Symphony No. 2
- Johannes Brahms Symphony No. 4
- Herbert Blomstedt - Conductor
Strauss is one of my favourite composers, and my fourth recommendation is the Rosenkavalier Suite. It was one of the first major works I played on the viola in my youth, and the experience convinced me that I wanted to make a career as a violist. Strauss's music encompasses the entire spectrum of emotions, from the intimate to the overwhelming, from joy to tragedy.

- Richard Strauss Vier letzte Lieder
- Erich Wolfgang Korngold Straussiana
- Richard Strauss Rosenkavalier Suite
