Concerts for the whole family

What do you get when classical music meets trash cans, scrap metal, and street theatre? TRASH brings its homemade instruments into the orchestra and creates a wordless performance where Shostakovich and Grieg are joined by comedy, stomp, and sonic magic. Ingunn Korsgård Hagen conducts this concert, perfect for everyone who loves music.

Vivi Vassileva is the soloist in the Norwegian premiere of Sauli Zinovjev's percussion concerto A Savage Beat, inspired by Indigenous peoples' ritual use of drums and rhythms. Samuel Barber's Essay No. 2 was written shortly before he was called up for service in the Second World War. Musicians from Ung Filharmoni sit side by side with the orchestra's musicians in Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5. Marin Alsop conducts this concert marking the Ung Filharmoni's 10th anniversary.

When the Oslo Philharmonic celebrates Halloween, it's not only the musicians who dress up. The entire concert hall is transformed into an arena filled with characters, decorations and orchestral music worthy of a Halloween night. The audience is encouraged to come in costume, and before the concert begins, both young and old can go trick or treating in the foyer. This is classical music you can both see and hear, best suited for everyone aged 8 and up.

What happens when one of history's most performed works is taken apart and reassembled by one of the most streamed living composers? Max Richter has done precisely that with Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, and when Baroque virtuosity meets the hypnotic drive of minimalism, something entirely new emerges. With Eldbjørg Hemsing as soloist, past and present merge in a musical journey that breathes new life into Vivaldi's most famous work.

Welcome to a musical Christmas experience for the whole family! Musicians from the Oslo Philharmonic invite you to an hour of traditions and festive cheer. This year features both classic songs and more recent Christmas music, before it all concludes with a large children's choir and John Williams' "Somewhere in My Memory" from Home Alone. Come early and join the Christmas workshop in the foyer one hour before the concert starts!
