Bruch's violin concerto with Zukerman

The Oslo Philharmonic welcomes the legendary Pinchas Zukerman to play Max Bruch's famous violin concerto No.1 and to conduct music by Elgar and Mozart.

The Israeli violinist and violist Pinchas Zukerman received his big break in the 1960s, while still a teenager. He emerged at the same time as figures such as Daniel Barenboim, Martha Argerich, Jacqueline du Pré and Zubin Mehta. In the course of his long career he has released over 100 recordings and received many prestigious awards. In 1970 he began conducting, and has since held a number of conducting positions while continuing his career as a violinist, violist and educator.

His concert with the Oslo Philharmonic opens with two popular short pieces by Edward Elgar, Chanson de matin and Chanson de nuit. Max Bruch wrote a total of three violin concertos, but the first in G Minor from 1866 is by far the most performed. In this concerto, Pinchas Zukerman will lead the orchestra as the soloist. The last work on the program is also in G minor, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's famous Symphony no. 40.

The concert "Death in Venice" which was originally planned for this date, is postponed because of illness.
