Mendelssohn Strauss Steinbacher Petrenko
Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra
Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra
Also sprach Zarathustra by Strauss and Mendelssohn’s violin concerto – two of the most popular works of classical music in one concert.
Felix Mendelssohn’s violin concerto holds such a strong position in the orchestral repertoire that it’s easy to forget that it was surprising and innovative when it was new. One example is how the violin enters in the first movement, at the very beginning of the concerto.
Richard Strauss wrote some of the most colorful orchestral works ever written. The introduction to Also sprach Zarathustra is one of music history’s most spectacular – and popular. This concert is the first in the Oslo Philharmonic’s extensive Strauss project in collaboration with principal conductor Vasily Petrenko.
