Oslo Philharmonic to BBC Proms

On 29th August the Oslo Philharmonic will perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London as a part of the BBC Proms 2017.

Chief conductor Vasily Petrenko will lead the orchestra in Stravinsky's Firebird Suite and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 12, with Leif Ove Andsnes as soloist in Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 4.

"It’s great that we’re coming back to the Proms," Vasily Petrenko says.

"We were last there in September 2013, at the start of my time as Chief Conductor. I believe we have made strong progress since and I look forward to sharing the fruits of our success together with the Proms audience. It has been so interesting for me to discover a different way of working with the musicians in Norway. Our return to the Proms is an important date for us and a tremendous opportunity to be part of one of the world’s biggest and best classical music festivals. It is always a personal pleasure for me to perform to so many people at the Royal Albert Hall and I know that it will be an inspiration for the musicians of the Oslo Philharmonic.”

"One of the most important international arenas for our work"

“Since making our Proms debut thirty years ago, we have built a long history there and feel that it is one of the most important international arenas for our work", says Ingrid Røynesdal, Chief Executive Officer of the Oslo Philharmonic.

"Performing at the Proms is always a special event and I’m delighted that Leif Ove Andsnes will join us, twenty years after the release of his live recording of Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto with the Oslo Philharmonic. Vasily does great work with us here in Oslo and has done much to strengthen the relationship we have with our audiences."
