On 29 August, the Oslo Philharmonic returns to the BBC Proms with Norwegian contemporary music on the programme.

One of the highlights of this year's concert is Øyvind Torvund's symphonic poem Morning in the Forest, originally composed for the Oslo Philharmonic and premiered in 2019. The work paints a soundscape in which the forest awakens to idyllic birdsong before traffic and noise gradually take over. It has already been performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and now takes its place on one of the world's most prominent classical stages.
"It is important that Norwegian contemporary music travels out into the world," says CEO Knut Skansen, who regards championing Norwegian music internationally as a key part of the orchestra's role.
The concert is led by Lithuanian conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, with Patricia Kopatchinskaja as soloist in Stravinsky's Violin Concerto. The programme concludes with Prokofiev's ballet music from Romeo and Juliet.
The Proms is broadcast on the BBC to listeners around the world, and for the Oslo Philharmonic the festival is an important international platform.
For the 17th time, the Oslo Philharmonic appears at the BBC Proms, and this time conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla brings with her Norwegian contemporary music and her own selection from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet. Violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja is the soloist in Stravinsky's Violin Concerto.
