Summer Vibes with the Oslo Philharmonic and Eldbjørg Hemsing
Kick off the summer with a relaxed afterwork and a light-hearted concert featuring violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing — a perfect way to ease into the holidays with the Oslo Philharmonic.
Afterwork & Mini Concert
We invite you to an afterwork gathering with music in front of Oslo Concert Hall at 16:00. The Wild Burger food truck will be on site, offering freshly grilled food for purchase. Oslo Philharmonic CEO Knut Skansen will open the event with a short introduction, followed by a mini outdoor concert performed by a brass ensemble featuring musicians from the Oslo Philharmonic.
At 18:00, the evening continues in the Main Hall, where conductor Gergely Madaras leads violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing and the Oslo Philharmonic in a performance of Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1.
Max Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1
Max Bruch (1838–1920) began composing at the age of nine and was early recognized for his talent. By the time he was 20, he had been appointed to a teaching position in Cologne and had completed his first opera. Although highly respected during his lifetime, today he is best known for his Violin Concerto No. 1. A violinist himself, Bruch began sketching ideas for the work as a 19-year-old. An early version premiered in 1866, but Bruch extensively revised the piece in collaboration with the celebrated violinist Joseph Joachim. The final version was published in 1868 — eleven years after the first sketches.
