Russian Fairy Tales with Ung Filharmoni

Ung Filharmoni play music by Dmitri Shostakovich and Igor Stravinsky.

Dmitri Shostakovich wrote his fast-paced and energetic Festive Overture in 1947. It was commissioned for the 30th anniversary of the October Revolution, but the commission came in very late, and Shostakovich finished the piece in three days.

In 1910, Igor Stravinsky got his big breakthrough when his ballet The Firebird was premiered in Paris. The story is based on Russian fairy tales and involves a prince, thirteen enchanted princesses, an evil sorcerer, and the mythical Firebird. Stravinsky’s music is rich in magical sounds and distinctive storytelling. At this concert, you will hear the suite from 1945.

NB: Due to infection control considerations, Ung Filharmoni will this year play their concerts without the participation of the Oslo Philharmonic's musicians.
