Opening of the Season with a new Chief Conductor
Opening of the Season with a new Chief Conductor
The season starts off with a “celebration of playing together.”
It is a great event when for, the first time, Klaus Mäkelä will lead the Oslo Philharmonic at Oslo Concert Hall as Chief Conductor. “Mahler’s Symphony No. 1is a celebration of playing together and the perfect work to commence a musical collaboration”, Klaus Mäkelä says about the principal work of the evening.
Mahler did something entirely new with the symphony format. He sought inspiration in poetry and folklore, embracing sources of inspiration in popular culture such as military music, yodeling, and children’s songs.
Finnish Sauli Zinovjev (born 1988) has made his mark in the past decade as an orchestral composer of international stature. The concert will open with his new orchestral work, commissioned by the Oslo Philharmonic.
