− I can’t remember who was conducting or what was being played, but the experience of sitting there in a rehearsal, seeing all these “gods” on stage making music together, left a strong impression on me. It was very inspiring.
Aslak Juva
Violinist Aslak Juva believes heritage was one of the factors which led him to become a musician - both his parents are trained in classical music.
− Apart from that, my first proper teacher at the music school in Kristiansand, Reidar Knudsen, was of tremendous importance before he died.
His father, Tellef Juva, is a pianist and music professor, and is perhaps the one who has had the biggest influence on him as a musician. Other important sources of inspiration have been the teachers Frode Larsen, Bjarne Fiskum, and Jan Bjøranger, and in recent years, Terje Tønnesen, after Aslak came to Oslo and started working in The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and the Oslo Philharmonic.
− Fantastic music and fantastic colleagues
Aslak remembers his first encounter with the Oslo Philharmonic well:

It was very inspiring. It has also been important to me to have been part of Ungdomssymfonikerne.
He has been working in the orchestra since 2010, and feels that the everyday is characterised by “fantastic music and fantastic colleagues”. A good concert experience for Aslak implies leaning back in your seat and letting the music take you wherever it will. It´s not easy for him to name his favourite composers:
− Within the classical world it´s probably Shostakovich, Brahms and Mahler. When I´m not at work, I mostly listen to other types of music, bands like Pantera, Slayer, Meshuggah and Lamb of God, to mention a few.
When he isn´t playing, Aslak likes hunting and being at his cabin, watching good films and TV series.
