Phenomenal Khatia Buniatishvili is the soloist of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
The Nutcracker by Pyotr Tchaikovsky was no immediate success when presented as a ballet in 1892. It was the orchestral suite with selected highlights that paved the way for the tremendous popularity enjoyed by the ballet in our time. Our former Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko here conducts the overture and the entire second act of the ballet, with known pieces such as Russian Dance, Waltz of the Flowers and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Phenomenal Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili impressed everybody when she first visited Oslo in the fall of 2019. Now she is back to play Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Rachmaninoff started working on the piano concerto in 1900 after an extended period of writer’s block and depression. The work was his big breakthrough, and 120 years, later it still evokes vast enthusiasm in the concert hall.
